Painting allows you to give shape through sign and/or colour, according to your necessities and inclinations. It is clear that the needs of an abstract or informal painter differ from those of a figurative artist, but in any case good painting is never pure academism. Technical ability must never prevail over the capacity to convey a poetical significance. Even “rupture” painting must be capable of stirring up emotions, leaving behind those formalisms that the various epochs seem to suggest.
